Andy Langlois is a Michigan-based visual artist and photographer working primarily in photography. His practice examines themes of isolation, depression, anxiety, and the healing process. He works across analog and digital processes, combining 35mm film photography with digitally manipulated imagery and experimental printing techniques.
Alongside his fine-art practice, Langlois works professionally as a photographer for an architectural materials manufacturer, photographing resin, glass, and terrazzo products as well as interior and exterior spaces where the company’s materials have been installed. His professional experience has given him an extensive understanding of lighting, composition, and the controlled representation of physical spaces and materials.
Langlois holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. His practice is informed by Expressionism and symbolism, which he brings together under the term “Depressionism.” Through photography, manipulation, and alternative processes, he explores how internal experiences can influence the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us.
